EN 60065, 8th edition, was published in 2014. This standard specifies the safety requirements for sound, video, and similar electronic products. The latest withdrawal date for EN 60065:2014 (the latest date of withdrawal for any conflicting standard) was set for November 17, 2017. In other words, from November 17, 2017, all products entering the European market within this scope must undergo conformity testing according to this new standard.
This standard is a harmonized standard based on the RTTED (1999/5/EC), LVD (2006/95/EC), and GPSD (2001/95/EC) directives. Audiovisual products within the scope of the RTTED and LVD directives must comply with this standard to be eligible for CE marking. If your product needs to be evaluated according to this standard to reduce the risk of being required to stop sales due to non-compliance, NTEK Testing can provide relevant consulting and certification services.
EN 60065:2014 applies to electronic devices designed to be powered by mains electricity, power supply units, batteries, or remote power systems, and used for receiving, generating, recording, or reproducing audio, video, and related signals. This standard also applies to devices designed specifically for use in conjunction with the aforementioned equipment. This standard primarily applies to household and similar general uses, but may also apply to equipment used in appropriate public places such as schools, theaters, religious places, and workplaces. Specialized equipment used in the aforementioned places is also included, unless such specialized equipment is specifically addressed in other standards.
Equipment within the scope of EN 60065 that is assessed using only EN 60065:2002 + A1:2006 + A11:2008 + A2:2010 + A12:2011 will have its compliance expire after 17 November 2017. All existing certificates must be updated to EN 60065:2014 before the DOW date.
The main changes in this version compared to the seventh edition are as follows:
1. New requirements for coin/button batteries;
2. New requirements for portable packaged rechargeable single cells and battery packs (excluding button cells);
3. Added warning requirements for non-floor-standing televisions weighing over 7 kg for home use;
4. Added requirements for LEDs;
5. Creepage distance compliance requirements will be consistent with IEC 60950-1;
6. Changes to requirements related to optocouplers;
7. New requirements for wall and ceiling mounting methods;
8. Review of all provisions to comply with the new directives.
This new standard is not yet mandatory, with a designated implementation date of November 17, 2017. At that time, Zhizhuo Testing will be able to provide testing and verification services based on this new standard. Manufacturers and suppliers are advised to update their existing certificates as soon as possible to meet the latest requirements.
